2012 May 16 - Executive Meeting

Wed. 6:00 PM

A planning meeting for the Executive Committee.

Location: President's home.

2012 May 21 - Monthly Meeting

Monday, 7:00 pm

Speaker Jim Bobb, from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area will be our May, 2012 speaker.

Jim is a semi commercial beekeeper with over 200 colonies, sells packages in the spring, and maintains apiaries in all sorts of historical locations. Jim is the Chairman Of The Board of The Eastern Apiculture Society, and will share plans for the program in Vermont this coming August, along with many of the other activities and goings on for the whole week of EAS. But Jim’s specialty is knowing all about honey plants…what do bees like, where do these plants grow, when do they bloom, are they predictable and how can you grow them. Jim is a member of several professional botanical societies, is the editor of the Seed Savers Newsletter, a competent gardener, a great beekeeper and a pretty good organizer. But bee plants…that’s where he shines. If you are curious about where your bees are going for all that good honey you make, or want to know what that flower is…Come to the May meeting at the Medina County Beekeepers, 623 W. Liberty St., Medina at 7:00 pm to catch the All About Honey Plants discussion and show given by Jim Bobb. Don’t miss it.

Also at this meeting will be our annual Plant Exchange. Bring one, take one.</br> Please label your plant with its variety and how tall it gets or spreads so we know where to plant it in our flower beds. Bring a plant that the pollinators love !

Location: In our regular meeting room at A.I. Root Co.

2011 June 18 - Monthly Meeting

Monday, 7:00 pm

Speaker Our June meeting is shaping up to be one heck of a wingding this summer. We’ve managed to capture an evening with Denise Ellsworth and Dr. Reed Johnson (Ohio State’s newest honey bee researcher, stationed at the Wooster campus) from the Wooster Campus for the opening of National Pollinator Week. We’ll be able to tour the OSU Beekeeping Museum, escorted by several of those in charge, take a look at all the displays in Reed’s new Pollenarium…a small, but very informational beekeeping meeting building, and look at the fledgling pollinator garden, right in the middle of all the activity. We’re aiming to get tours of Secrest Arboretum to look at the honey plants growing there, and at the other honey plant garden on the campus. We’re looking at getting a bus for travel from Medina, but the details aren’t worked out yet on that…say tuned. But don’t forget to schedule a heck of a Field Trip to Wooster for our June meeting…History, A brand new Pollinator Garden, Secrest Arboretum, the Pollenarium, Dr. Reed Johnson, Denise Ellsworth and more. Watch this space.
