Is it spring yet??? Equipement is piling up in the garage just waiting to be put out in the beeyard. Warm weather better get here soon. So far a lot a club members have been reporting high winter dead outs. Late summer mite loads? Too long cold spells? Viruses? Poor ventilation? This scenario has played out before but not to this extent. I was in the club's beeyard and I think we lost two hives there. Where will all the new bees come from to replace everyone's losses?

Barb Bloetscher will be our speaker at the April meeting. Since many of us got closed out of her talk at the Tri-County Seminar, I'm hoping she can add a bit of small hive beetle talk to her already planned topics. The stats are in and we rate 3rd in the state for small hive beetle counts... where do they come from? How about those never-ending pesty varroa mites? She will enlighten us there, too.

We will have a chili cook-off this month for those who wish to participate...I will bring the tums! We have some give-aways, too, so please sign-in so you have a number.

The club has a new extractor!!! Generously donated from the gentlemen at BETTER BEE. I will have it at the meeting for all view. It is a beautiful piece of equipement and I know that our club will take excellent care of it. A sincere thanks to BETTER BEE for this donation!

Take some time and fill out the new monkey survey about winter losses prepared by Mike Rossander for the club. I would like to talk about this at the meeting. Take a look in your hives and feed them if possible to try and get them through this tough time.

Spring has to be near...if they can hold on a bit more.
